Michigan is home to some of the largest and most prestigious colleges and universities in the United States. The esteemed, University of Michigan, has been the flagship school of the state since 1817. In 2006, the University of Michigan was ranked as one of the top 25 universities and colleges in the United States by US News and World Report. But, Ann Arbor's pride and joy is far from the only option college-bound students have when it comes to post-secondary schools in Michigan.

Michigan has a number of options including private schools like Adrian and Alma Colleges which offer both urban and rural campuses and majors includig business administration, biology, psychology and even highly specialized majors like kinesiology and exercise science, biomedical sciences, visual and performing arts, and linguistics. There are also a number of public colleges and universities that offer students a diverse college experience no matter what major they choose to pursue.

Top Michigan Schools

Some of the lesser known Michigan schools have been recognized for various different programs and majors that they offer. Kettering University was ranked in the top 10 last year for their engineering program and ranked number one for their Industrial Manufacturing program. The University of Michigan was also named in the top 5 for their Industrial Manufacturing program, Productions and Operations Management, International Business, Acounting and Management programs among others. Needless to say, the small state of Michigan is leading the way when it comes to cutting edge education.
